I come from a family of avid baseball fans. My dad told me story after story of my grandfather's involvement in Minor League Baseball, so this book was of special interest to me. However, I don't think you need to be a baseball fan to enjoy it because the story is much more that just about baseball. It is about social issues, small towns, and a volatile time in our nation's history. This book was well written, easy to read, and very entertaining. It was the best fiction I've read in a long time.
