According to a recent NEA government report, less than half the
adult population now reads literature. More than three out of four
of those on welfare, 85% of unwed mothers and 68% of those arrested
are illiterate. About three in five of America’s prison inmates are
illiterate. In fact, fifty-eight percent of adults never read a book
after high school and forty-two percent of university graduates
never read another book. Fourteen percent of adults go to bookstores
and walk out with a book, but only 10 percent of that number (or
1.4% of those who purchase a book) read past the first chapter.
Psychologists tell us that reading habits are developed in the first
several years of life, and that reading to children in the evening
is the most important aspect of that development. After sleeping
peacefully for more than 200 years, Mother Goose has come back to
life to kick some butt!

Book Bargains Review

This is a wonderful collection of bedtime stories that includes
nursery rhymes, stories, fables, proverbs, and Bible stories. I
was pleasantly surprised to find all my old childhood favorites as well
as some new stories that I hadn't read before. This is a wonderful
volume to add to your library. You will use it throughout the
childhood of your children and/or grandchildren.
